Years ago — no one seems to know when — feral cats began to sneak into the park, living among the park’s trees and shrubs during the day. At night, they venture out, and an estimated 200 cats now prowl through Disneyland and neighboring California Adventure Park. But instead of evicting the cats, Disneyland’s animal wranglers work to control the feline population by spaying and neutering the adult cats and finding homes for all kittens born in the resort. The cats eat at five permanent feeding stations installed throughout the two parks. “We are not trying to get rid of them,” said Gina Mayberry, manager of Disneyland’s Circle D ranch, where the park’s animals are housed. “They keep the rodent population down.”

“Think about it. Half and half is a product defined by its fat content. It’s half and half, half milk, half cream. Fat is what makes it good! Fat is what makes it useful! Doesn’t it make you wonder then, shouldn’t you halt in your tracks and ask yourself what the heck is this stuff if there’s no fat in it? Because it’s not half and half. It’s granny with wolf’s teeth. It a lie. And we buy in over and over again in a million forms.”—Misleading Food Labels | Michael Ruhlman

“By controlling the flow of information and how targeted the iAd platform becomes, Apple is taking back control so that it can decide what is appropriate. And I trust Apple in that regard a hell of a lot more than I trust Google, Facebook, etc. The thing is, Apple is a hardware company, that’s where they have and will continue to make their money. Google, Facebook, and others trade in information. The more detailed and specific, the more valuable that information.”—
I have been saying this for a long time, but I don’t know that I have ever seen it in print before. it’s also why I’m more comfortable hosting my own web site despite security maintenance requirements and using paid email despite Google’s free email becoming de rigeur.
